Permit to take water -info session

OMAFRA's Rebecca Shortt will be making a presentation on "Permit to take water" followed by queston and answers. There will be time for one-on-one assistance for applicants. Pre-registration is required by calling the OMAFRA ag info line 1-877-424-1300.

Emergency First Aid / CPR course

The Kent Federation of Agriculture and the Chatham Kent Farm Safety are hosting an Emergency First Aid / CPR course on Saturday, March 13th, 2010. For more information or to register please call the KFA office at 519-674-1595.

MICRO-FIT SOLAR WORKSHOP

Thursday, March 25th, 2010@ RDC bldg. Ridgetown Campus, UoG, Ridgetown, ON. There will be two sessions, 2-4p.m. or 7-9p.m.

This is a workshop designed to provide farmers with information about micro-fit solar projects. Guest speakers will include Don Hillborn-OMAFRA, Ted Cowan-OFA Researcher, and Bert Rammelaere-area farmer.

KFA Regional Meeting - 2009

The Kent Federation of Agriculture hosted their Regional meeting August 19th and was successful in electing a full slate of delegates to attend the upcoming OFA convention. The elected delegates are: Clayton Crow, Dennis Owen, Mark Huston, Allan Pollard, Donna Pollard, Leon Leclair, Harry Lawson, Alice Uher, and Chris Quinton.
Also elected were the Policy Advisory councilors- also known as PAC members. They are Frank Byrne, Louis Roesch, and Mark Richards. Congratulations, and Thanks to our new delegates and PAC members.
 

KFA Scholarship

The Kent Federation of Agriculture is again offering two scholarship opportunities. Each scholarship will be for $1,000 and each recipient must be from the family of a KFA member.

Application forms are available from the KFA office. New deadline for application form remittance is September 30th, 2010.  

Kent Cattlemen's beef dinner and dance - Feb 27, 2010

The night is called the Kent Cattlemen's Beef Promotion Night.The date is Sat. Feb.27 at the UAW hall on Merrit. The evening consists of a roast beef dinner catered by Cheryl Ann's Catering and a dance with music from Hippy's DJ Service. There is a silent auction with the proceeds going to the 4-H beef clubs. As well there are door prizes of beef as this is their annual promotion night.Why not promote beef ,right? The door prizes are sponsored by local agri businesses in the Chatham Kent Community. Their business card accompanies each door prize. Social starts at 6:00pm with dinner at 7:00pm.

Round the County - Ag Tour 2009

The Kent Federation of Agriculture held their 11th annual “Round the County Ag Tour” Sunday, Sept. 13th and it was a great success. There were upwards of 500 people who took in the event. We would like to thanks th host sites, the sponsors, and the community for making this event such a success.

This year’s host farms included:
1. Buis Beef Ranch, 7186 Ninth Line, Raleigh
2. Steve & Alice Uher Farm / Uher Feeds, 20970 Harwich Rd., Blenheim
3. Gladstone’s Sweet Potatoes, 428 Chatham St. S., Blenheim
4. Smith & Wilson Wines, 8368 Water St., Blenheim

This event was available free of charge because of the generous donations from various ag businesses and organizations. Special thanks to: Agris Co-Operative, Chatham-Kent Wheat Producers, Country 92.9 FM, Kent County Pork Producers, Kucera Can-Am Tractor Ltd., Ontario Sugarbeet Growers” Association, Seed Corn Growers of Ontario, Stewardship Kent, Today’s Farmer, and the Kent Federation of Agriculture.

 2009 KFA Annual meeting

The Kent Federation of Agriculture held their annual meeting last Friday. This was a time to acknowledge and thank those who have worked to improve agriculture in our area as well as a time to elect directors for the new 2010 KFA board of directors.

This year’s meritorious recipient was Hector Delanghe. The Ed Campbell memorial award was presented to Louis Roesch and the KFA scholarship recipients were Kyle Craven and Devon Clark.

The new 2010 Kent Federation of Agriculture board of directors were elected and they are:
Louis Roesch – President
Leon Leclair and Mark Huston – vice presidents
Alice Uher – Past President
Directors are; Clayton Crow, Ron Faubert, Ed Pumfrey, Gord Woods, Adrian Jaques, & Bill Parks.

There are a few vacancies on the board so if anyone might be interested in getting a bit more involved with the Kent Federation of Agriculture please give our office a call at 519-674-1595.
